Torneko 2: The Last Hope

With Torneko 2, Enix made another foray into the realm of roguelikes, this time on the PlayStation. The game even made its way to the US, but seeing as this was a time when publishers seemed to be trying extra hard to make the genre popular on consoles in the West, it probably shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.

Torneko 2 does diverge much from the first game in the series, with the biggest difference being the improvement in visuals and sound. Torneko is still on the hunt for treasure, and fortune, and will take on however many monsters as he must in order to achieve this.

The game sold very well in Japan. In fact it did so well that a Gameboy Advance version of the game was eventually made. Unfortunately, it didn't fair so well in the US. Dragon Warrior diehards gave it a go, but the press weren't particularly taken with it, giving the game mediocre scores.

Once again, Koichi Sugiyama provided the music for the game, with a soundtrack being released that included over 20 tracks.
