Slime Morimori

As popular as the little blue thing is, it's surprising that it took so long for Enix to get around to making game that starred the slime from the Dragon Quest series. It was only in 2003 that this came to be, as Slime Morimori was released on the GBA. It was a noticeable departure from a lot of Enix's other games, especially Dragon Quest, as the game had a very strong platformer vibe to it.

The game starts with a little blue slime finding a magic wand that turns him into a bird. When his father finds out, he makes the little guy stay in bird form over night as a punishment for fiddling around with magic items that he shouldn't. That night, a bunch of birds attack the slime's town and kidnap everyone, but since the slime was still transformed he is left alone. The next day, when he turns back to normal, the slime has to start the search for all of his friends, and free them.

Players will navigate various dungeons looking for the slime's friends. He can attack enemies by stretching himself and flinging into them, picking up items to throw at them, or when he picks up a friend that he is rescuing, he will gain various types of attacks that he can use. The slime will have to carry whoever he rescues to designated exit areas that range from hot air balloon pads, to river rafts, to railways where the creature can hitch a ride back to town.

Unlike its sequel, the original Slime MoriMori never got released outside of Japan. It did quit well for itself there, though, selling almost 350,000 copies.
